This sweet little bundle belongs to a good friend of mine. I was so excited to find out that she was having a girl! It seems I have photographed so many boys this year... It has been so much fun photographing this family through the years and watching their family grow! I also included one of my favorites from her maternity session.

This week's I Heart Faces photo entry theme is the color Orange. I had this fun senior over the weekend, and thought this would be a fun entry into the contest. Her orange shirt made it the perfect entry. I also gave it a vintage-y feel with a toning effect from a plug in for Adobe Photoshop. And yes, that is her families sailboat! I told you this was a fun session. ;)

I was in Arlington Today for a portrait session, and thought I'd drive by the ballpark to get this image. They are in preparations for game 3 tomorrow, so there were a lot of people around, taking their own pictures, buying merchandise and getting ready for the crowds tomorrow. I'm not much of a baseball fan, but this is exciting for Ranger fans, their first World Series ever! All you Ranger Fans, enjoy!

So, this is my first I Heart Faces photo challenge. I thought Pink Week would be a great time to start, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My daughter LOVES Pink, so she was a great candidate for my submission. She wanted her baby doll in the picture too, and they even have matching pink dresses on! She wears her Pink Ribbon pin as well, in honor of her Great Grandmother who had a mastectomy due to breast cancer.

So here is our quick take outside in front of the rose bush, about 20 minutes ago. I love the innocence of this image and the meaning behind it. I hope you have enjoyed this image as well, and feel free to leave a message on this post honoring someone in your life that has had breast cancer.

Today is the 3rd annual World Wide Photo Walk! I lead the walk downtown Weatherford this morning before it got too hot and too congested around the square. There were about 10 of us that made it out. This is a dream of mine, to become a certified photographer. Why, do you ask? It clearly states that I take photography very seriously and do all that I can to stay educated, fresh and focused in the craft. And thus in turn to bring you the very best portrait art of your family for you home that you will proudly display for years to come.

Sandy Puc, a well known photographer based in Littleton, CO, has offered to educate photographers for the certification program. Her goal is to have 1,000 photographers certified. As of today, there are not that many photographers who are certified. And with the advent of digital technology and plenty of amateurs out there ready to give you a "deal", certification is even more important than before. The term Professional Photographer is getting watered down. Who would you trust with your life's most precious, irreplaceable moments; a "professional amateur", or a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP)?

I was taking pictures of the kids playing and having fun and my daughter wanted to take a picture too. I told her to get her own camera, as this is why we bought it for her. She did and had fun taking pictures too!

And this is the image she took of her brother. Rearing a new breed of photographers perhaps? As long as they appreciate the craft and enjoy it, then I'm a proud momma!

Finally got the kids Valentine's pictures taken. My what a chore! It's always harder to photograph your own kids. The first image is great. The second image is what happened when brother saw that sister was sitting in the chair and he didn't like it. He tried to push her out of the chair during her photo shoot! And he was mad!

We had record breaking snow in the DFW area this past week (Thursday) and the kids loved it! I admit, I loved it too! Reminded me of being a kid. Here are some fun images from the Thursday and Friday. The snow started to melt Friday and was almost all gone by today. Now everything is slushy and wet. I'm ready for spring and the flowers that come with it! :)

Teaching!

I will be teaching photography to grade school students beginning January 27 at Trinity Bible Church. Trinity Kids College are evening classes for the students while parents meet for bible study. We will cover basic camera use, lighting, and composition. I will be lots of fun! Students arrive at the Worship Center between 6:15 and 6:30, then off to class until 8:15. Hope to see you there!

Anyone who says a photographer's child is easy to photograph, they are not a photographer! I think your own children are the hardest to photograph. You expect them to cooperate! A little of it has to do with being four. She is such an energetic child who loves life and is full of that life she loves. It is my challenge to photograph that energy into a work of art, and that is what I love!

These were taken right before Christmas when it was 75 out. Then next day the cold front came and it hasn't warmed up since. I'm so glad we got these when we did!

BACK UP!

Now that the holidays are over and the decorations are all put away, it's time to think about those pictures you took during all the fun. Where are they? Hopefully you have downloaded them to your computer and gotten them off your memory card. But, have you backed up your files? Computers can crash at any given moment, so it's best to back up your files to an external hard drive and/or CDs or DVDs. Consider making a copy DVD and storing them at a close relatives house or renting a safe deposit box. Making two copies is ideal, so you have a backup of your back up.

Also, if you haven't already, print those pictures! Put them in an album or scrapbook and make notes about funny things your kids said when they opened a particular present, how excited they were, or disappointed that that one present wasn't under the tree.

Now is the time to preserve these memories, before they are gone forever...

Back from the Black Hills

We got back from our vacation in the Black Hills of South Dakota this past week. Here are a few images of some of the places we went. Images shown are from Badlands National Park, Devils Tower National Monument and Mount Rushmore National Memorial. It was very nice out that way, fresh cool air and beautiful scenery! I recommend it, if you have never been.

My baby boy turned one today, so I took some portraits of him. I baked a cake for him to smash and enjoy eating. He really liked the icing! I also bought the cutest denim overalls and took his portrait with a family chair. It is so hard to believe that an entire year had gone by. It all goes by so fast.

I have been watching the backyard for sometime now, watching the light that is. We have a small grove of trees back there, and in the evening time, the lighting is so pretty I just had to check out what kind of images I could make. They were stunning, just like I expected them to be. The light was just right and the trees helped add interest. Too bad my model was not more cooperative! I will definitely be shooting there again.

This week, I signed up to be a photographer at Vacation Bible School at our church. Tonight I took almost 200 portraits of each child attending. I have also been taking candids and staged shots for a slide show story. I am glad I can use my talents for the glory of God.

I had a wonderful family today. We traveled to the Botanic Garden in Fort Worth to take some portraits for a late father's day gift. It got very hot, very quickly. Despite the heat, the kids were very well behaved, and we got some great images!

My Sister

While I visited my family in Houston this past weekend, my sister and I went out to do a crazy fun shoot. The idea was to do a trash the dress session, but we didn't know a good place to do that. So we ended up at some park near my parents house, and found a tree stump and a gravel pile. These were some of my favorites from the outing.

We have been doing shoots like this since we were girls. We have both come a long way in our trades! That is, me photographing and her modeling. I wish she lived closer so we could do this more often!

Last week was Texas School of Professional Photography. It was a blast. I learned a lot of stuff. I took a class with Greg and Lesa Daniel, and they are a wonderful couple. The class was very informative and the two of them are great teachers. All I have is nice things to say about them. I am looking forward to next year!

Tonight, I had another one year old shoot. He is walking and sitting still is not his style. We did manage to get some cute pictures of him, though he was not too sure about his cake! He did dig in a little bit. By the end, he was covered from head to toe!

Today I went to the Guns and Hoses Tournament out at Quick Trip Park in Grand Prairie. I got some great shots of my husband playing the sport he loves most, baseball.

A one year old and a cake

This little one year old I have photographed before. She is such a doll. She had so much fun digging into the icing of the cake her mother brought for her. There were so many cute pictures it was hard narrowing them down! These were a few of my favorites.

Oklahoma

This past weekend, I took a trip to see my best friend, who lives in Oklahoma City. We were suppose to visit Kansas, but that fell through. So, we spent the weekend in Oklahoma City. These are some images that I liked. Most are flowers from Myriad Gardens. I did get my Lensbaby out for that one! It was fun playing with it.

The other images are from Route 66. And it just wouldn't be a trip to Oklahoma with out a spring thunderstorm! Wish we could have been out of town for that one. We did make it to the memorial, but we got rained on, we were soaked!

I am still editing the images, and may post more later. These just jumped out at me first.

Childhood Wonder

I have been trying to get a similar image of my son to match one I have of my daughter. After about four tries and hundreds of images later, I think I got one I am happy with this morning. The first one is of my daughter 3 years ago, and the second one is my son from today. I was trying to capture that child wonder in him, as I did her. He was not so cooperative. He just wanted to chew on everything. But, I think I am finally happy with the results!

My son is now six months old. He is starting to sit up on his own. I got a few shots in before he lost his balance. This one is my favorite!

Ladybug

We were out in the yard pulling weeds when we spotted a ladybug! We are all so excited about it, mostly my daughter. I had to get a picture of it for her. I think I'm going to try to incorporate it into my design somehow. What fun!

Princess of Fort Worth

We headed down to the Botanic Garden today to take some pictures of my daughter. It was a bad time of day to be taking portraits with harsh sunlight and lots of people around. But I worked around it and got some images taken. This is the first installment of princess images. I am taking some to make a book for her. We will be going back to take some more, hopefully when we can have better lighting and less people.

I retook my son's 5 month pictures and this time they came out great! I am so happy I decided to retake them. He is growing up so fast, I don't want to miss a moment!

5 Months

I took some pictures of my son to mark his fifth month. I used natural window light, but I think it was a little late in the day. I am not as happy with them as I would like to be. I think I will try again this afternoon to get some better ones.

Here is an image I took a few weeks ago. I have a lot of fun playing with it. I added frames and adornments, but most importantly, pixie dust! I don't think you can see the pixie dust very well on the web, but it is there.

Barrel Race

Here is a picture of the Senior Barrel Racing at the Fort Worth Stock Show. It was very interesting to watch and exciting to try and photograph. The horses moved very fast and gracefully. I got to try out my continuous shutter release.

My Little Man

My Little Man turned 4 months. I took some pictures of him, as I do every month. He was happy for most of them, then he was done, just like any other baby!

My princess is Three now! She's loves dressing up, so that is why I took her portraits in her princess dress. I also bought a new frames and backgrounds program, which I used one on here. I think it is going to be a fun addition to my portraits!
